Bringing Dignity to a Playful Place

Wednesday, June 30, 2021 - Joe Kiedinger

I just got off the phone with Donna Hicks, PhD., whose research and writing I’ve mentioned many times over the years. “Dignity violations have the same physiological effect as being approached by a knife wielding attacker.” Sound familiar? The author of Dignity: Its Essential Role in Resolving Conflicts and Leading with Dignity: How to Create a Culture That Brings Out the Best in People, Dr. Hicksspent more than twenty years researching dignity at Harvard University.

We were comparing notes on our work in the field of dignity and had a remarkable conversation that I want to share with you.

Taking a highly academic approach to her work, Dr. Hicks was surprised and delighted by the Prophit Co. approach on what have traditionally been viewed as “heavy” subjects like childhood programming, stress, conflict and personal purpose.

We agreed we can learn about very serious subject matter in a light and informal way and still reap the same rewards. Because we’ve discovered in our research that in order for people to reach a place in their lives where they feel fulfilled and content, we need to first help them rid the shame of holding onto their past. We want to bring joy and comfort into people’s lives by helping them discover who they truly are, not who they were told they were many years ago.

That thinking is part of what inspired our newest venture, Leadership Adventures.

Look at this as an on-the-road Disney spin on serious, life-altering curriculum. Our leadership and culture-building trainings and experiences deliver results packaged in a delightful, whimsical way. Because life is too short to be serious.
