Tuesday, November 14, 2017 - Lauren Hitt
Our annual Servant Leaders of Wisconsin (S.L.O.W.) Summit is right around the corner. Join us on Friday, January 26th, 2018 at The Marq in De Pere for this engaging event.
We will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a hot buffet breakfast and networking. Then, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. keynote speaker and consultant Phil Gwoke from BridgeWorks will deliver his presentation: “When Generations Connect, Communicating Across Generational Divides”. Audiences are sure to enjoy Phil’s unique set of humor, research, and generational experience.
I had the opportunity to sit down with Phil and learn a little about him and his presentation. Here is the first installment of a three-part series based on our conversation.
Q: Good morning, Phil! How exciting that you’re you’ll be presenting at our annual Summit event! We’re eager to learn from you and hear about your experiences. Who was your leadership mentor and what stuck with you most?
A: “I have had several people at different times in my life that I would say mentored me as a leader. In high school, it was my youth pastor. In college, it was the resident dean. However, I would say the most impactful mentor I ever had was the person who came to me in a difficult time of life and became a friend and my business partner saying, ‘Let’s work together to change the world.’”
Q: That’s very meaningful, Phil. And, what background do you have with the Servant Leadership movement, specifically?
A: “I was taught early on in my life the philosophy of a wise teacher who said, ‘Whoever wants to be a leader among you must first become a servant’. I have adopted that approach all of my life and so far it has worked.”
Watch for the next installment of my conversation with Phil Gwoke coming soon. We’ll hear about Phil’s personal leadership philosophy and why his focus on “the generations” is so essential.
